Fables, the comic book series, began publishing in 2002 and is written and created by genius Bill Willingham. For all those calling new shows “Grimm” and “Once Upon a Time” the best thing since sliced bread, you need to read Fables and look at your choices.
This series draws characters from familiar fairy tales and folklore and has stuck them in New York City. Yes, these Fables (what the characters call themselves) are really stuck. They’ve been exiled from their Homeworlds after fighting the mighty and villainous Adversary. As well, Fables that would not fit in with the Mundys (humans, short for Mundane) as they are not human are sent to the Farm.
Fables is a great journey. It begins steadily to introduce you to the characters: first with a murder mystery, conspiracy thriller, and caper. However the long arc in the series is the fight against the Adversary. The artwork is beautiful as well - take a look up top at some random snippets.
Honestly, I love this series and I hope someone out there falls in love with it now too. Give it a shot and if you really do love it, I strongly encourage buying it but for now try out these. You’ll need the program Comical to read them and also, be aware that Fables is published by Vertigo which means it contains mature content not suitable for all audiences. Additionally, there is a spin off, prequel, and novels that tie in. And a video game coming soon!
*Please note that this only that I did not upload these, I only found them. I own Fables so I didn’t download the entire collection but many of them, and they all work, they’re safe etc. As well, this only contains issues 1-90 and there are currently actually 110. And again, I strongly encourage buying Fables! It’s worth it!
